How does the time change affect working hours?
Updated over 2 months ago

Why is this important?

Understanding the impact of the time change on working hours allows you to better plan and manage employee schedules. This ensures accurate timekeeping and avoids any confusion.

How does the time change work in France?

In France, as in many other countries, we change time twice a year. This change has an impact on working hours, as employees work one hour more (winter time) or less (summer time).

What are the impacts on work shifts?

Employees working throughout the time slot of the time change

For employees who work throughout the time slot affected by the time change, the length of their shift will be automatically recalculated to take account of the time change.

  • Example: Younès has a shift starting on March 30 at 10pm and ending on March 31 at 3am. The start and end times will remain the same, but the duration of the shift will be 4h instead of 5h, because we “lose” an hour in the night of March 30 to 31: at 2h it will be 3h.

Employees starting or ending their shift during the time change

For employees who start or end their shift during the time slot for the time change, there will be no impact on shift duration.

  • Example: Sam has a shift that starts on March 30 at 10pm and ends on March 31 at 2:30am. The duration of the shift will be 4h30.

Employees who do not work during the time slot for the time change

For employees who do not work during the time slot for the time change, there will be no impact on shift length.

  • Example: Émilie's shift starts on March 30 at 10pm and ends on March 31 at 1am. The duration of the shift will be 3 hours.

Additional information

  • The change in shift duration will take place automatically on March 28, 2024 for the March 31 time change.

  • When a shift impacted by the time change is modified (for example, by copying it to another date or by repeating it), the duration of the shift will be adjusted to exclude the hour not worked due to the time change.
